What goes hand-in-hand with most celebrations? What do you use to toast someone on a job well done? A wedding? The answer, of course, is champagne.
Unfortunately, it seems those celebratory occasions have dwindled in the last few years, as champagne shipments from France dipped in 2024 for a second consecutive year. A report from trade association Comité Champagne said shipments dropped nearly 10% and attributed it to a lack of reasons to celebrate in the drink’s largest markets. The report pointed to inflation, conflicts and political uncertainties as causes, which are all understandable. However, I didn’t necessarily celebrate with a glass of champagne when those things weren’t happening.
My wife and I drank our usual bottle on New Year’s Eve, so we did not contribute to the decrease. If any of my favorite teams were to win a championship again, I would probably pop a bottle at this point … but who knows when that will be. I’ve had one the last 30 years …
