The Washington Capitals bested the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night in a matchup of two of the NHL’s best teams. The Caps held on for the 3-2 victory despite Oilers fans trying to tell the visitors, “This nacho night to win.”
While I find it hard to believe it really affected his play in the moment, Capitals goalie Logan Thompson tried to get a goal overturned after a fan threw a tray of nachos onto the ice. Corey Perry skated over the tray before he ripped a one-timer past Thompson to draw within one early in the third period. The rules give the referees the discretion to stop play for objects on the ice, but in this case, play was not stopped. We’ll call it a home-ice advantage.
I wasn’t able to find how much the nachos cost, but considering this story from a few years ago, I’m going to guess they weren’t cheap. The only place my $15+ nachos would go is in my stomach.
