Hello from ERO Insider, and a very happy Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day! And we guess there’s another holiday today associated with the heart, if you’re interested. Our correspondents have been hard at work during another busy week in the world of electric reliability, so come along and check out their work!
At their meeting in Miami this week, members of NERC’s Board of Trustees and Member Representatives Committee emphasized that trade disputes won’t stop them from pursuing electric reliability regardless of borders. Holden Mann was in the room for that discussion, along with the board’s initiative to modernize NERC’s standards development project. (See NERC Leaders Highlight Canada-US Collaboration.)
NERC leaders also discussed the ongoing threats from foreign cyber actors targeting the grid at this week’s meetings. Check out the link for the update from the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center, and an explanation of the wave of drone sightings in December. (See E-ISAC: Foreign Actors Continue to Target Grid.)
The impact of data centers on electric reliability could be kept under control with a little work on the part of their operators. Join K Kaufmann inside for a look at the new study from Duke University and its implications for grid operators. (See US Grid Has Flexible ‘Headroom’ for Data Center Demand Growth.)
NERC CEO Jim Robb had a warning for the National Association of State Energy Officials last week about the potential for energy shortfalls in the next 10 years. Find out why he says the grid needs more than 130 GW of new power to keep the lights on. (See NASEO Panel Explores Coordinated Planning to Meet Demand Growth
Thanks again for joining us! We’ll be back again next Friday with another weekly update, but don’t forget to check back throughout the week for the latest news from the ERO Enterprise and beyond. Until then, have a great weekend, and stay safe and warm!
