Hello from ERO Insider, your No. 1 source for news from the wide world of electric reliability! The start of Daylight Saving Time has made folks here at the official volcano lair a bit grumpy this week, what with suddenly having to take the kids to school while it’s still dark out. With luck the extra daylight and warmer weather coming soon will wash the negativity away. In the meantime let’s have a look at our intrepid reporters and their coverage from this week!

In a report released this week, cybersecurity firm Dragos detailed the first known intrusion by the Voltzite hacking group on a U.S. electric utility. Holden Mann brings you a look at the case study and its implications for the cybersecurity landscape. (See Dragos Outlines Voltzite Electric Utility Breach.)

Industry won’t get a chance to vote on NERC’s latest cold weather standard, but stakeholders still took the opportunity to make their feelings known. Check out our summary of the comments on EOP-012-3, and what the likely next steps for the standard are. (See NERC Cold Weather Standard Commenters Say More Work Needed.)

SERC Reliability warned this week in its Long-Term Reliability Assessment that multiple subregions are now heading toward insufficient reserves, squeezed by growing demand and the departure of traditional generation sources. Click through to see the regional entity’s recommendations for stakeholders. (See SERC Projects Shrinking Margins in Next Decade.)

That’s it for this week, but we’ll be back next week with a full slate of stories including a report from FERC and NERC’s joint workshop on supply chain risk management! Until then, stay safe, enjoy the sunlight and have a great week!
