Happy Friday from ERO Insider! We temporarily moved operations to sunny New Orleans this week to take in SERC Reliability’s Board of Directors and Members meetings, but that didn’t mean we neglected the rest of the wide world of electric reliability. Let’s grab a café au lait and some beignets, and get the weekly rundown started!
Meteorologist Sunny Wescott has become well known in the ERO Enterprise for laying out, in no uncertain terms, the impacts we’re likely to see from the changing climate. That famous candor was on full display at SERC’s Members meeting, where Wescott laid out a laundry list of weaknesses that grid planners may have to reckon with in the future. Holden Mann has more details inside. (See Meteorologist Warns Climate Bringing Multiple Grid Impacts.)
SERC’s members also voted in the next class of directors at this week’s meeting, while the directors agreed to their new leadership and moved forward with the regional entity’s draft business plan and budget. Click through for more from the meetings. (See SERC Members/Board of Directors Meetings Briefs: March 26, 2025.)
ERO stakeholders shared their views on FERC’s proposal to accept new ride-through reliability standards for inverter-based resources, and their voice was far from united. Check the link to see why some say the standards should go through as is, while others have a lot more changes in mind. (See Stakeholders Call for Further IBR Standard Revisions.)
The search for a new CEO of the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center is over, with NERC announcing this week that Michael Ball of Berkshire Hathaway Energy will take over from Manny Cancel on April 14. Head inside for more on the transition plans. (See NERC Selects Berkshire’s Michael Ball as E-ISAC CEO.)
The world of cyberspace is a dangerous place, and getting more so, according to a report shared by NERC last week. Follow the link to learn about the cyber incidents reported to the E-ISAC in 2024 and why NERC says continued vigilance is needed. (See ERO Says 2024 Cyber Incidents Showed Increased ‘Sophistication’.)
That’s going to do it for now, but we’ll be back next Friday with another exciting email update, and we’ll be bringing you the latest updates all week as well. Have a great weekend, and keep the dial tuned to ERO Insider!
