Happy Friday from ERO Insider, your window on the world of electric reliability! We’re back with another weekly roundup of stories from our unstoppable crew of reporters, so let’s jump right in and see what they’ve been covering!
Electric and gas industry stakeholders agree that their systems need to establish better standards of coordination, but the gap between both is still wide, according to speakers at a meeting hosted by FERC and NARUC. James Downing listened in as representatives including NERC CEO Jim Robb and FERC Chair Mark Christie shared their views, and he’s got more inside. (See FERC-NARUC Collaborative Examines Ongoing Issues with Gas-electric Coordination.)
NERC released the long-awaited Canada supplement to its Interregional Transfer Capability Study, which predicts a growing risk of energy shortfalls in the country. Holden Mann has more on the report and why Québec is especially vulnerable to deficiencies. (See NERC Finds Growing Shortfall Risk in Canada.)
IESO’s new Reliability Outlook incorporates changes the ISO says will make scheduling summer outages easier. Rich Heidorn Jr. is up to explain how the updates will improve alignment with other forecast reports and bring a better fit for the changing supply mix. (See IESO Tweaks Modeling for Outage Management.)
A Washington man stands charged with damaging five electric substations and attempting to destroy another in the state in 2022. Those charges come on top of another two substations he was already accused of attacking in Oregon. Follow the link to see why investigators say greed prompted the sabotage. (See Feds Charge Man with Wash. Substation Attacks.)
Finally, Vincent Gabrielle reports on a plan for a new process for transmission project planning from the Northeast States Collaborative on Interregional Transmission. He’s got more inside on the nine states’ proposal, and why it suggests that FERC’s rules haven’t been what the industry needs. (See Plan Lays out Steps for State-led Interregional Transmission in Northeast.)
Thanks again for spending your Friday morning with us! We’ve got continuing coverage planned next week, including reports from NERC’s Member Representatives Committee and Board of Trustees, so make sure you keep checking back for the latest. Have a great weekend!
