April 30, 2025

This past week, transmission was the hot topic for NetZero Insider, as states are looking to increase their import/export capability to meet their clean energy goals.

The Northeast States Collaborative on Interregional Transmission released a strategic action plan Monday for creating an interstate planning process for transmission projects that span the seams of ISO-NE, NYISO and PJM. The collaborative comprises Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. Their plan could lead to an entirely new, state-led transmission planning process.

While Maine is part of the collaborative, not all of the state is part of ISO-NE: Aroostook County, in the state’s rural north, is interconnected to the grid through Canada. But the county holds a ton of potential for wind, and the state PUC is eager to find transmission solutions that would connect those new resources to New England.

Meanwhile, John Cropley was busy with a trio of company calls to discuss earnings and other reports: GE Vernova, NextEra Energy and RWE. The companies have not abandoned their offshore wind ambitions, but they are certainly being more cautious and considering new strategies amid the second term of President Trump.
